LinkedIn is a social network that focuses on connecting professionals in a business setting. LinkedIn has the capability to connect people with clients, bosses, and employees. My first impression of Linke In was that the profiles represented a professional resume. After investigating the site, I found that users are able to apply for jobs using the site and the profiles act as resumes. The online resume allows users to connect links to their job experience or work allowing companies to quickly move from site to site to view the user’s capabilities. Also, LinkedIn allows users to form connections with other users. These connections are business related and help users keep connections with co-workers or bosses to make referrals or help someone get a job.
Facebook however, does not allow users to make connections in a business setting. Facebook is a social network that connects friends. This is accomplished by sharing personal information to friends and family through pictures, comments and statuses. As a user of Facebook I limit how I friend and try to keep my personal life away from my professional life. LinkedIn is a good site that does just that, by solving the personal vs. professional issue on a separate site.
